When I started the firm, I wasn't trying to create the biggest accountancy practice. I wanted to create one that people genuinely enjoyed working with. A firm where relationships mattered. Where advice was practical. Where professionalism was never compromised.
Like many professionals, I spent years developing technical knowledge before starting my own business. What I discovered was that running a business requires a completely different set of skills. You suddenly become responsible for people, leadership, cash flow, growth and countless decisions that no qualification can fully prepare you for.
That experience changed the way I think about accountancy. Our role isn't simply to prepare financial statements or calculate tax liabilities. It's to give business owners greater clarity and confidence as they make important decisions.
Over the years, I found myself working more closely with dentists. The similarities were striking. Like accountants, dentists spend years becoming highly skilled professionals before taking on the challenge of building and running a business. I understood that journey because I had lived my own version of it.
The more we understood the profession, the more relevant our advice became. That understanding eventually led to the creation of Dental Accountant. Not because we were looking for a niche. Because experience had taught us that understanding a profession leads to better advice.
